    Hi Pre
would you be so kind to provide details of the information you found? (Perhaps you quoted someone on my ignore list, in which case don't bother).

Meanwhile, I cannot find quarterly figures to compare with yours, but this is what I found:

    https://www.whichcar.com.au/news/vfacts-2023-best-selling-electric-cars-australia-dec

With 20 all-new or heavily overhauled electric models launched in 2023 and an overall sales record set, it's hardly a surprise that there were more electric cars registered in Australia than ever before.

But a volume increase of 161% over last year to 87,217 is still a massive achievement for battery-electric vehicles. Of the 1,216,780 new cars registered, 7.2% were electric, following the combined hybrid and plug-in hybrid share of 9.0%.

Within a resurgent Australian auto market in 2023, electric vehicles have maintained a steady presence at around 8% market share. December’s numbers indicate that 7.2% of the market was fully electric (BEV) and 1% PHEV. Over 98,000 vehicles sold in Australia in December, with around 8% having a plug. This is a 161% increase over December 2022. However, Australia’s numbers were impacted by the departure of the Glovis Caravel RORO, unable to unload its cargo of cars due to a yellow stink bug infestation. The cargo has been returned to China.

Full battery electric vehicles made up 7.2 per cent of new vehicles delivered to buyers in calendar 2023, compared with 3.1 per cent in 2022.
While battery electric vehicles represented 7.2 per cent of overall sales, the inclusion of plug-in hybrid and hybrid vehicles meant that vehicles with some form of electric motor made up 16.2 per cent of the total market, with 196,868 sold. This compares with 11.2 per cent in 2022.

Overall, EV sales in December tallied up to 6,761, bringing the total battery electric car sales to a total of 87,217. This was a sharp increase of 161% compared to EV sales in 2022 which made up 33,410 vehicles on Australian roads in that year.

During December, Tesla still dominated the EV sales, making up 2,192 sales. This also happened to be the brand’s second-lowest month of sales in the year, mainly due to the Tesla shipment being unable to make it to Australian shores.

One thing is for sure, EV supply and model availability will continue to improve, and with rising petrol prices, more drivers will consider making the switch to cheaper to run electric vehicles.

maybe the following chart from https://thedriven.io/2023/12/22/australias-2023-ev-market-in-review-the-best-value-electric-and-what-was-tesla-thinking/ is worth a thousand words, though admittedly the figures for Q3/Q4 2023 are estimates:

So overall, though there always are peaks and dips, the trend is very strong.
