    There are some discussions with regards to modern carpark design and layout, the 4.8m x 2.5m minimum space is pretty outdated and is likely based on vehicle design from the 70's. Our firm has recommended 5.4 x 2.6, a 6.6m aisle and a live load of 3.0kPa (300kg/m2) for suspended deck concrete structures. Those projects have been for country town projects and have more than enough capacity to hold a modern EV without issue.

    The new preview into the proposed changes indicates that spaces are going to be longer (over 5.6m I think?), aisle widths are to wider (closer to 6.8m wide?) which is going to mean larger spans, thicker floors to accommodate the larger vehicles Australians are buying.

    A modern Ford Ranger has a bit of trouble fitting into a 4.8m minimum space, let alone not block half the aisle with it's tail sticking out.

    As for making them more compliant with ev requirements, that likely has to do more with fire suppression and firewall design, something modern carparks need anyway.

    The rules aren't finialised by any means, and by the time it becomes widely accepted it will likely have more jeopardy into proposed projects having their DA requiring amendment or being cancelled becase it can no longer fit on site.

    It's pretty bad watching some older carparks struggle for circulation and storing modern cars, that's before an EV is even considered.
