Not everyone lives in cities, but most people do. But wherever you live, the question is, why do people want to buy a massive metal roo-crushing tank?

Is it because they've seen other people driving them, therefore monkey see, monkey do? Is it because they dream that going bush would be good, even though 99% of the time they use the off-road vehicle to go to the mall or the gym? Is it because they have had lifelong exposure to marketing and consumer culture which conflates your identity with the car you drive?

What is the cost to the community at large of these behemoths pumping out CO2 and grinding our pristine biomass to a muddy dusty hellscape? A lot more than they return to the economy and the common good. Just give it up, let's go back to small cars, or better yet, no car at all!

I agree that cities are not nice places, Since I moved out several years ago I haven't even wanted to visit. Cars generally are like a little box of the city that you put yourself in and take with you everywhere. I prefer to walk in the bush rather than drive through it.
