A huge number of countries owe their prosperity to fossil fuels. Many have risen from poverty to prosperity as a result. EVs are ideal for rat-infested city locations and there is plenty of power there to charge them overnight, albeit powered by fossil fuel base-load supply until small nuclear becomes acceptable. In Australia there is a place for hybrid vehicles that need to cover long regional distances. EVs will reduce the demand for fossil fuels but their supply is massive and will respond by lowering prices. Fossil fuels will be here beyond our lifetimes, like it or not. India and China are still building coal-fired power stations. Remote islands will continue to generate power from diesel. Cruise ships will continue to burn 10 tonnes of diesel per hour. Aeroplanes will continue to burn tonnes of fuel per hour for many years to come.
