BYD looks like it is an unstoppable behemoth. They make batteries for their own cars and other makers too. Lithium has had a bust, but a boom is a pretty good bet for this and other reasons. Before I saw the article from SF@HC (about its "Corolla Killer") I was already thinking of BYD as a Chinese version of Toyota, but BYD is not just cars.
Interesting, too, to compare with VW. I read in the US press recently how they are trying to get back into the market there with their latest EVs. VW is now a conglomerate with several luxury brands. Its history as the maker of a "people's car" is just a nostalgic design inspiration now, to make expensive cars more appealing. They are volks wagen in name only. What's the price on their upcoming pseudo Kombi? They're talking over $100K for the top specced model! Meanwhile GWM is being cheeky with the Beetle-riffing Punk Cat.
