It should have happened decades ago, but money, power, politics and corruption have held it back. The very concept of the "petro-state" - entire countries taken over by fossil fuel industries - shows how big a shift it is. It's still a struggle, e.g. it will be hard medicine for the US and others to take. China has such a lead in EVs, the only way to reduce those emissions is to import Chinese cars, and that's a pretty hard sell for the US car industry.
