Mexico, eh? It's going to be interesting because US EVs are already made in Mexico, BYD is maybe setting up a factory there too. I just read a comment form one US industry group that Chinese cars could present an "extinction level event" for the US auto sector. American auto makers are dinosaurs and can't deliver EVs to meet emissions targets. For someone like Biden, keeping his grand promises of doing something about climate change would mean losing support of US auto workers. For Trump, the post-truth climate denier and chronic fantasist/liar, it's easier, he'd just slaps tariffs on everything and say "drill baby drill." But then when inflation hits, the Florida coast gets washed away, California runs out of water, and Phoenix becomes uninhabitable, he's going to have to call the army in to deal with the protests.
OK, I admit that's all very speculative. But we do live in interesting times.
