It's not just Sydney and Melbourne though. Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, the Central Coast, Perth... the vast majority of Australia is urban, absolutely perfect for EVs. Even in the outback, the harsh conditions are hell on ICE engines. A hardy EV could thrive. Also the long distances will favour any innovation which reduces fuel costs. Really NO car is made for Australia anyway, Holden, Ford, Mitsubishi, Toyota, all gone now, that's globalisation for ya.
There are capital costs, cumulative losses and government subsidies aplenty for fossil fuels too. Also there is political zealotry behind the support for fossil fuels. Your own post reflects this. You are doing a bit of inverse virtue signalling, it's just daft, zealous right wing political correctness, the sheeple will follow the lead from the Murdoch media, the oil-funded US think tanks, the Russian troll farms, and whatever boomer crap they see on facebook. If you believe otherwise, why are you deep into lithium? Are you betting that your "side" in the culture wars will lose?
