Both Honda and Toyota were heavily into Hydrogen and the technology works and works well. The infrastructure side of Hydrogen use is terrible. Expensive to produce, storage and distribution issues.
Toyota have been doing Hybrids for sometime so are not new to EV technology at all. The Prius has been around for a long time. They've maintained that Hybrid is the best option and I agreed.
We are not at a point where full EV uptake is viable. Hybrid is a logical intermediate step.
