"They would sell themselves"
Well, fir half a century Holdens and Falcons didn't. Because their factories were inefficient, the govt slapped a tariffs on all imports to make them competitive. Therefore not only did the local cars cost more to buy than overseas, BUT EVERY AUSTRALIAN PAID THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS MORE FOR EVERY CAR SOLD IN AUSTRALIA.
Talk about subsidies!!!
