Thanks for the excellent references. All of them call rechargeable Li batteries "Li ion" regardless of the chemistry. I recall reading a media report which stated LFP batteries were not Li ion (as distinct from ternary chemistry Li batteries) but that report was factually incorrect. This is not uncommon in many major media reports on the subject.
I agree with you about the possible causes of battery fires. The naysayers react loudly to any of these incidents as it supports their bias. As battery technology improves there should be less chance of a catastrophic failure (like a fire) per battery, but as the number of batteries in use increases there may be more fires but at a far less incidence than fossil fueled technologies.
