Why does one have to be anti EV or anti ICE?

Because ICE vehicles have higher emissions and will be worse for climate change which is on track to to devastate human economies and threaten the survival of billions of people. You don't leave that to "consumer choice", any more than you leave, I dunno, asbestos insulation to consumer choice. So it has to be anti ICE.

Having said that, EVs also cause emissions and contribute to climate change, just not as much. So I am also anti EV. What we actually need is to reduce consumption generally, including reducing the number of cars. We haven't actually worked out how to do that yet, there is no credible political and economic solution to climate change, so the best we have at the moment is a p*ssweak energy transition with pathetic inadequate targets which are failing dramatically. But it's all we've got, and part of it is to be, broadly, anti ICE.

Well that's my answer anyway. I'm sure Tucker Carlson or Vladimir Putin, or yer grumpy uncle on facebook have a different opinion, we can all say "OK boomer" to each other until the end of time.
