I used to work at a place that had 6 radiation units, each sucked 500k volts. In a power outage situation we had to restart them 1 at a time over a 30 minute period cranking them up 100k at a time for 3 increments, 50k for 2 increments then 25k increments until full power. If we tried to crank them all up at the same time, we'd black out the northern suburbs.
That's with full base load available. Large cities with their manufacturing base, street lights, commercial usage and domestic usage is huge.
