Just thought I would post some figures for my PHEV since purchasing last November.

    Total km - 2892

Electric consumption 14.5kWh/100km - 419kWh at 22c kWh = $92.25. (Currently I charge at night because I'm on a great 44c kWh export tariff. Once this finishes, I will charge during the day as the current export rate is 13.44c kWh. So in the future, the consumption would cost $56.31, which is what I would have received in credit for exporting rather than charging.)

    Fuel consumption 4.2l/100km - 121.5 litres at $2 litre = $242.93

I've travelled on the highway more than I would usually so the % EV use is lower than what is normal for this predominantly town car. It's a mid size SUV so the fuel consumption is higher than a corolla and I use premium fuel. Approx' 66% EV mode, at a guess.

So in total, it has cost $335.18 to travel 2892 km. If I converted that to a fuel amount at $2l, that is rounded 168 litres.

So in fuel cost terms, I'm using 5.8l/100km (Unleaded), for a mid size luxury SUV.

It would be cheaper for town use only as EV mode would be used 100% and cheaper again once my 44c export tariff rate contract expires (2028) and I go back to 13.5c kWh for charging.

In 2028, I will upgrade my solar and add ESS. By then, the cost of EV charging will be capital required for the solar, spread over many years. For EV/EV's charging requirements, I estimate approx' 1.5kWh of solar panels which would provide approx' 7.5kWh a day in my neck of the woods. That is more than enough for my average km travelled. At $1 a watt (estimated cost of panels), $1500 plus installation, inverter, BMS etc spent over 20 years to power my EV's. Obviously long distance highway charging network costs are extra.

It's a no brainer really, as economies of scale and technology advancements in batteries drive down entry costs.

Hopefully by decades end, V2G will be mainstream. I expect most new EV's by then will have that capability and solar will be backed up by community ESS systems. See link below.

I don't understand the roadblock mentality in regards to the transition, but there you go, it takes all types.
