Shopping centres like GPT/ Westfield etc do not pay 30c per kWh for electricity.
They pay a fraction of that. They also usually have extensive solar arrays covering all available roofspace, further lowering their c/kWh effective tariff.
2x 22kW chargers being used say 50% of the time for a 12 hour day would require 264kWh of energy, at say 10c/kWh that's $26.40. Peanuts really.
The view is this is offset by the extra trade that is brought in by in by EV owners choosing to park there and shop while free charging, versus going elsewhere. This is passed on to tenants in a rental premium.
But mainly these corporations do this at present to satisfy corporate ESG objectives, and over time this will change as EV ownership becomes the norm, and most likely they will move to a competitive charging tariff that is still attractive to choose as your parking/charging/shopping spot over alternatives.
