No doubt there has been too much optimism.
But on the other hand growth in China is proceeding unabated.
The european and japanese car makers just realised they are not competitive, so are now pushing the hybrid narrative to hide their mistake, obviously strongly supported by big oil.
Apart from Tesla, US is unlikely to affect anything - especially if Trump wins. Americans still are skeptical about EVs because of their long love affair with oil.
But there will be a reckoning before the end of the decade. If the traditional auto makers don't wake up they will be bowled over, and the west will miss out on the greatest technological advancement happening right now.
