I mean there are many ways the US tariffs on Chinese vehicles could play out, I'm leaning towards a scenario where Xi will support Chinese companies building their factories in the US and skirting the tariffs. It's a huge political win for him if Chinese companies can produce vehicles in the US under the "same" regulations as the US companies and still make their vehicles more affordable and better quality than the old legacy automakers.
There's also the possibility that the US just keeps falling further behind China and doesn't make the switch to EVs for another generation or two.
