Interesting take.
Don't think it's that black and white...not disagreeing straight out, there's gotta be a spoonful of relativity.
My dad worked for Ford in the 80's (Deutscheland) and Nissan here in the 1990s. One memory I have etched in my mind, is seeing robotic arms literally building a car on a conveyor belt in Dandenong...freaked me out as a 6/7yr old but mesmerised me at the same time.
Thought riding shotgun in 300ZX the was cool, but now I understand how cray that car was (mate bought one early 20's).
He knew the writing was on the wall then, sure enough plant closed. Then Mitsubishi, Ford & Holden.
It's a shame though, know a few engineers that worked for Holden. If you watch enough car review channels over time (I'm approaching 40), you'll find there's a myriad of love for Australian built cars (driver engagement). See Top Gear early days.
Much of the criticism is the interior ergonomics/styling which over generations has been poor comparative to os.
Imo, the switch to 4cyl and turbo variants was too late, the exterior styling was Buzz light years off Europe and Asia's. Too much reliance on the v6.
Conversely, the 6cyl fwd options Asia and Europe gave us to compete was ridiculous.
Alas, the profit margins are better os, too hard to compete, hence the closures. Disagree re - productivity/skill, unfortunate climate I think.
