China can manipulate the price, by running lepidolite mines at a loss, to flood market enough to drive price down and negotiate long term contracts with Australian miners cheaper. They can invest in dodgy African mines to bring on excess supply.
They can have little to no transparency on pricing mechanisms.
The big USA firms also undoubtedly manipulate through negative press whilst accumulating and trading to each other.
