Not sure of the ins and outs of borrowing shares. One of our esteemed shorters who visit here maybe able to provide the finer details. I'm sure there are rules for the retail pleb shorters and different rules for the scumbag investment bank mob when swapping shares between each other to manipulate the market in their chosen direction.
If you look at hedge funds, warrants, options etc, there are puts etc that are provided by the holder/market maker for retail plebs to participate in short selling. Options and warrants are time based.
