The government subsidising EVs (or property investment) comes from the consolidated revenue which are monies from taxpayers. Yes the government is elected by the taxpaying public to be tasked with allocation and distribution of those funds but it’s not the governments money or coercion. It’s the taxpayer saying we prioritise these issues and we expect you to allocated our funds accordingly!! The majority of the taxpaying public want to see environmental concerns finally addressed and decarbonisation via EV mass adoption is what the taxpayer wants its consolidated revenue spent on until such time (as you say) that total costs are more affordable due to mass adoption and new manufacturing efficiencies.
