It's a distinct possbility, in reality Hard rock cannot compete with Brines.
However, brines come with a few risks - Environment (Water) and Juristiction (Government - Chile, Argentina - goal posts constantly changing).
SQM have diversified by buying Azure, partnering with Wesfarmers. So there are legitimate reasons to buy hard rock at the bottom of the cost curve.
I think a lot of projects are going to die though, PLS won't be one of them.
