I have no idea about US agriculture. In saying that, it's OK to subsidise as long as it's applied equally across the board. For example, if you're subsidising wheat crops, then it needs to be across the board and not just a subset of wheat crops. Imagine you had a business and your competitor was getting a subsidy from the government.

Trump said the oil and gas companies should donate to his campaign if they want to return him back the White House because his policies favour them. That's what every elected official does. That's like Albanese telling the unions to donate to him if they want a government that favours unions to be re-elected. All government officials are "buying" votes. Trump is just more open and honest about it.
