In theory, a battery operated giga train, could traverse the whole of Australia by swapping discharged batteries batteries along the way.
Assuming that the battery was contained within one carriage, it would be as simple as decoupling one carriage and hooking up another (with a charged battery).
Strategically placed solar farms along the route would recharge discharged batteries.
