I would call dilution only if loosing market cap value.
sp = asset / number of share
sp ($1) = asset ($1) / 1 share
sp ($1) = asset ($2) / 2 shares
if short squeeze => share price increase => share holders make money! =>>>>> no dilution
merger it does make sense to me. Saves overhead and many things!
