Africans are not helpless blobs that lack agency. They are perfectly capable of being backwards and corrupt all on their own.
In any case, relative to other parts of the world (e.g. Ireland, North America, the Caribbean, the Subcontinent, etc.) most of Africa was colonized quite late and relatively briefly. So I'm not sure colonization must take the blame for every problem happening in Africa.
