DRC is definitely not a place I would ever invest in nowadays, given the high level of corruption and rather cozy relationship with PRC. I learnt a valuable lesson when I stupidly invested in Sundance Resources (there's a blast from the past!)...... Chinese did their usual thing with DRC pulling the rug out from under a number of companies (SDL weren't the only one) who had invested a lot of money. Did wonder for a while if the whole plane crash carrying SDL executives was an accident or just an unhappy 'co-incidence', but it sure destabilised the company and made it vulnerable. Happily, had the bulk of my $$$$ in PLS, so the loss has been erased many times over.
