I also feel that if the last few decades had been spent on developing green energy plants then maybe solar, wind, tidal and even green hydrogen would be cutting it.
- But culture and politics are slow to change and Australia’s coal industry has created large cities and generations of family employment and - as you say - the need is still there and I think new coal projects are still being rolled out.

There was an interesting study done by the Grattan Institute* in May 2020 that suggested a genuine way forward would be converting East Coast coal plants and communities to green steel producers supplied by Pilbara iron mines by rail (EV-operated obviously): [Start with steel: A practical plan to support carbon workers and cut emissions]
