Note that It took10 years to reach 1 mill EV sales, achieved in period 2006 through 2016. Battery packs consumed an averaged of 32kg of lithium. So lets do pant wetting math, 1 mill EV units x 32/1,000, thus 32,000 tonnes of lithium. If you actually read and understand the EU's recycling plan, they expect that only 35% of the recycled lithium will be suitable for battery use, therefore 11.2kt from those first 1 mill EV units. To be conservative lets double the available spent EV batteries that will be available in 2025 and, assume 45kg per EV, so 90kt, of which 35% (32kt) will be suitable for batteries, approximately 3.2% of lithium demand expected in 2025. The remainder of that recycled lithium will be good for lubricating the hinges on your letter box, or maybe other uses in your case.
