It takes about 5.3 tons of lithium carbonate and 5 tons of hydroxide to make a ton of lithium metal.
A ton of lithium metal is enough to build about 90 to 110 electric cars. 10kg per car give or take (Tesla got more but most Chinese domestic cars have less)
According to GlobalData, nearly 12.7 million EVs are expected to be produced across the globe in 2024
By 2025 lithium demand will most likely outgrow the supply of all the known lithium projects. “There is not sufficient supply to meet this demand projection based on our knowledge of known projects today. That includes all projects whether they are under construction, in feasibility or still in exploration,” wrote Glyn Lawcock, Global Head of Mining Research UBS
Everything above take it with a grain of salt... but one thing for sure is there is supply crunch.
In the near term ie 2024 no car maker is going to say -> your lithium isnt green
