In an ideal world electric cars can be recharged via home solar panels and charge stations near your place of work which also has panels. (Assuming you are not at home due to pandemic). For longer journeys, charge stations are powered by renewables. More and more solar panels or renewables in the grid system.

BTW, Victorian government is reducing solar rebates to 6.7c next month so many households will be disappointed, however it could convince households that it is financially viable to invest in some home battery storage. Round and round we go, but it all increases the lithium demand, so PLS fans will be happy.

Thanks for your measured response. I was anticipating a thumping for asking such a question on a Li blog. Once again we are faced with the intermittancy of solar and wind and the need for Li batteries to make it work. That is great for the Li industry, but wouldn't nuclear be a one stop solution. No storage required there. I.m into both - Li and nukes. I suspect both will be winners in the long run.
