Elders lures with a pliable pitch

ELDERS boss Malcolm Jackman knows full well that attracting talent is trickier if the company is regularly in the headlines for all the wrong reasons ? his previous gig was managing a recruitment business.

But word from the regions is that Elders is hitting back at rival Landmark ? which earlier this year gutted Elders' long-haul live export business by poaching David Uebergang, Tony Brightling and Andy Ingle ? and has called in professional headhunters, reports The Australian Financial Review .


Concerns from targeted Landmark staff ? about a fairly soft Elders share price, the strength of its finances and whether it may eventually be bought out ? were met with some interesting logic.


Word is that a recruiter from Plato Group suggested there was a lot of fear mongering going on in agricultural markets about Elders but, rest assured, should even the worst happen the Australian government would not let Elders sink. Talk about sales spin.


But not everyone is gun shy. Sources close to Elders point out it snared Bankwest chief executive, human resources and corporate affairs, Belinda Harding, to head up Elders' human resources function last week.
