You will find that the ASX is only concerned when people are making money, that don't worry when people are losing money.
That has not changed in the 30 years that I have been investing in the sharemarket.
If AMX would have risen from 37.5c to 43c on the back of no news they WOULD be issuing a speeding ticket without question.
If they were really concerned with people losing money because of short selling they could stop that also.
But they choose not to.
It all comes down to money.
They make it and we lose it.
