Very interesting about the desalination. There are issues associated with releasing brine in the upper spencer gulf, which is a "low energy" marine ecosystem with important seagrass and mangrove habitat (important for fish to breed). This is particularly a problem for BHP's original proposal to desalinate seawater near Port Bonython, which also has issues with giant cuttlefish. If GRK finds a good enough geothermal resource, it could be promising, depending on where brine would be discharged. The spencer gulf marine plan is at:

If brine is dischared in the gulf, then lower down the gulf any brine discharge occurs, the better.
