How do you know that insitutions have been selling it? Which ones? I suspect large hedged positions have been reduced in the previous two months to take advantage of a December rally in other sectors. That's fine if they want to sell their shares to me at these levels.
It has unquestionable support at 23.50 - so at these prices the downside is less than bugger all. Any BHP price weakness is temporary in a multi-year upward trend. This will be capitalized at over 100b very soon indeed.
