I think following a particular theory may well be of benefit to those who stumble at this point;

To consider all things without prejudice, and to accept those things in the way they appear to us, influenced utterly through our personal interpretation by virtue of our own sense of the very spirit in which those things are presented to us.

That is indeed a mouthful - but it has worked for me.

And it will work for you, the reader.
