If the US is on a slow path to recovery will which I believe is probably true at least in the short to medium term does that then mean that the deficit will be wiped???

If they keep on printing money to dilute the purchasing power of the USD then the USD will slowly drop.

Having said that this is not a case for an argument for a drop in Gold because a slight recovery in the USD would not effect it's eventual rise. The past will repeat itself.
