gm, one of the aspects of the Australian psyche that you are very able to articulate, is the ability of far too many Australians, not all, to focus on the negative.
People in the public eye, irrespective of how many positive contributions they may have made over a lifetime, will, if they make one mistake, be judged on that mistake and treated accordingly. Even ordinary individuals who may have made a mistake early in their lives have to carry that baggage through their careers, despite it being an exception rather than the rule. In the case of this apology, there is no acknowledgement that for many of those removed from desperate circumstances, it was a positive move that allowed them better opportunities in life.
Having lived in a society where the opposite happens, that is, people are prepared to overlook and forget about past mistakes, and instead make their judgement on the positive contributions, I feel that we burden ourselves with unneccessary baggage that will see us fall behind those people who are more focused on the opportunities ahead rather than the failures of the past.
Today we are going to hear from people who supposedly suffered from being one of the stolen generation, but are we going to hear from any of those who benefitted. Or are we supposed to believe that none benefitted.
