Local people and local government[shires] are intimidated by one of the biggest employers in Tasmania because of it's support by those employees, their families and state government. It's a small place and it takes a brave person to stand up and complain when their neighbors are dependent on the company or it's spin offs.

The negative press comes from the strength of the negative issues and the press are supposed to be free from the effects of intimidation.

Hopefully the change of state government has lessened it's unflinching support for whatever this company plans.

Poor practices elsewhere in the world should have no bearing on sustainable practices in this country. Excuses such as that will have deadly consequences.

The underlying problems are that profit decides company practice and must be controlled by government intervention.
Using trees to make paper is unsustainable and is ridiculous in this day and age.
Reduce the use and waste of these products but better still, find an alternative.

That will have an immediate effect on those atrocities you mention, atrocities driven by corruption in governments all the way down the chain and a lack of education that masks the finality of those acts.
