As a mining company, holding a $1billion plus cash is fortunate. In that respect, ozl is in a enviable position among its peers. However, it is only fortunate if it makes good use of the capital.
holding the capital in a depreciating currency and watching its value eroded day by day is not good money management by any standard. True, BHP has a much larger bundle of cash than ozl, but percentage wise, it is much lower than that of ozl.
there is nothing wrong to make acquisition with the cash in the current envioronment when it can add value to ozl share holders. in my view, the best acquisition is the purchase of ozl shares, ie. a buy back. anything else, I doubt the capability of the current management.
