It's not that the deal couldn't have been good, but I believe the downturn in exploration drilling after the DDH acquisition has meant that the DDH shareholders have been the ones who have turned out to be much better off than they would have been if they had continued on solo, and it's turned out to be, at this time, not such a great deal for the existing Perenti shareholders pre the deal.
Sorry for the long sentence and bad news @slimsven but read it slowly and you'll be ok and know that if you'd held you'd probably be much more comfortable with the takeover now.
