There is a whisper that Singapore Airlines is interested in buying in to the HNA group or parts thereof. In particular, it seems SIA is quite interested in some involvement with Hong Kong Airlines.
That could lead to a play of SIA and HNA buying the AIZ holding. Or it could lead to an SIA takeover bid for VAH with HNA being a friendly participant. With control taken away from Borghetti and put in SIA hands, AIZ might reconsider and join in the new group. Remember, SIA and AIZ are friendly.
The thorn in the side is Etihad, no friend of Singapore. The friendship between Borghetti and James Hogan at Etihad creates a defensive stake to help keep Borghetti in his job.
