    I've never been a fan of jingoistic nationalism.

    we're extremely lucky to have been born in a relatively peaceful nation..... merely an accident of birth that we are so blessed.

    yet Aus isn't perfect either, just like every other country.

    imo we should be sharing our good fortune/luck with as many people as we meet. but we don't need to glorify our nation inordinately.

    really though, when the First Fleet sailed in it wasn't bringing "wealth for all to share" as the song describes.... the Brits sent us criminals and prisoners (the real crims were most often the soldiers) and the country was largely a lawless anarchic mess for the first 100 or so years. so imo if we are to have Aus day it should be connected when this collection of clones became a nation - federation day.
