Just a note of caution. I seem to recall that there are restrictions on claiming CGT losses on options. If you trade an option for a loss (i.e. buy it and then re-sell the option for less) you can claim the loss as a CGT offset. If on the other hand you allow an option to expire and you chose not to exercise it, I think you are not actually allowed to claim the loss.

I may be mistaken and of course given our self-assessment tax system it would probably only matter if you were audited, but I think it would be prudent for people to seek their own individual advice just to make sure they are fully aware of how the rules apply in their circumstances.
