We probably have the most competently run banks in the Developed World.
Interest rates are set by the RBA- all the banks do is add a margin. If banks lowered home loan rates by 1% whilst cost of funds remained the same- they would make nothing.
Whilst Socialists- and Greens- might like this- we would no longer have a stable banking system which provides liquidity to the economy.
Yes- I am also a borrower from the banks.
