Hi Mickem, here are the Google Trends results for the word 'Phoslock' over the past 12 months:
As you can see above, you do see a bit of a spike in the number of searches for this term towards the end of June.
The problem with this one is that the vast majority of searches originate in Australia: presumably, much of this would be from enthusiastic Phoslock shareholders, which would probably include myself.
That said, it is interesting to note that there have also been quite a few searches for the same term from Germany over the past month or so: after Australia, Germany appears to be the only other location where there seem to be large numbers of searches for 'Phoslock' in recent weeks, so there might be something going on over there.
By the way, I was intrigued to read that info about Lake Hugh Muntz, as it provided a bit of insight into some of those Google Trend searches on 'blue green algae'.
When you run those words into Google Trends over the 12 month time frame, Australia ranks as number one. My suspicion was that, as you mentioned, this may have been influenced by searches from curious Phoslock shareholders.
So I was a bit puzzled to find that the vast majority of the searches in Australia over the past 12 months originated from Victoria and Queensland, and over the 30 day time frame, the searches were overwhelming from Queensland.
You would have to assume that the issue with algae at Lake Hugh Muntz has been driving much of the Australian search traffic.
The worldwide search rankings are a bit different if you just look at the 30 day time frame. Most searches for the term 'blue green algae' over this period are from:
1. the UK; closely followed by
2. Canada
3. Australia; which is roughly tied with
4. the United States.
After the USA, there is a bit of a gap, at number 5. is Kenya, at 6. India and Nigeria sits at no.7.
The search results have a strong bias to English speaking countries, and presumably other countries would be using different search terms or perhaps different search engines.
