New York - At Google's annual analyst conference last Thursday, Chief Executive Eric Schmidt reportedly confirmed the existence of the GDrive online storage service, an initiative that would allow users to store their personal files on Google servers and access them on the Web.

According to a PowerPoint presentation that was reportedly published on Google's Web site, Schmidt told analysts that the company aimed to store 100% of consumer information.

Schmidt's comments were recirculated by sharp-eyed bloggers and have also been picked up by major news media outlets across the globe. Google (nasdaq: GOOG - news - people ) has since removed the slides from its Web site, but blogger Greg Linden, who first uncovered the news, quotes liberally from the presentation: "With infinite storage, we can house all user files, including: e-mails, web history, pictures, bookmarks, etc and make it accessible from anywhere (any device, any platform, etc)."

Eventually, the presentation reportedly continues, "the online copy of your data will become your Golden Copy and your local-machine copy serves more like a cache."

While offering more convenient access to user data, GDrive has stoked debate about the security risks involved with storing so much personal information on Google machines. A spokesperson for Schmidt's company declined to comment on the service, stating only that the Internet firm is "constantly working on new ways to enhance our products and services for our users, but we have nothing to announce at this point."

knowledge is power but to have knowledge and not blab is supreme power.
