Google is pulling the plug on its real estate listings feature in Google maps, citing low usage.....On local shores, it competes directly with Australia's two most popular sites, domain.com (owned by Fairfax media)and realestate.com, allowing real estate agents to list properties on Google maps free of charge.
"We recognise that there might be better, more effective ways to help people find local real estate information than the current feature makes possible" Google earth and maps vice-president Brian McClendon said " We'll continue to explore this area"
He said "the proliferation of excellent property search tools on real estate web sites and the infrastructure challenge posed by the Google base API (used by listing providers to submit listings)also had a part to play in the features retirement.
