Health Market Report
Advances in digitization in Germany
BERLIN. More and more patients online, especially the over 40-year-olds, the smartphone as a preferred online medium, always better apps: Germany is getting more digital - even in the health care market. This is the conclusion drawn by Dr. Alexander Schachinger, editor of the annual Digital Health Market Report (DGM-Report).
According to the latest analysis, the majority of online users are now mobile with mobile devices: the smartphone is now the device of choice with 66 percent, followed by laptop (57 percent), desktop PC (44 percent) and the tablet 38 percent).
The spread of wearables is still present in the children's shoes: only around two to three per cent of consumers have used appropriate applications to collect health and fitness data from the body using sensors. The media hype has not yet turned into a corresponding demand, says the report.
For the first time, the report also includes patient-related market potentials: Top-ranking online affinity among 40 indications are bulimia patients, 91 per cent of the nationwide around 100,000 sufferers are online. The online affinity is based on osteoporosis patients, who are only seven percent online. This group is mainly women older than 65 years.
Apps and digital services would always be better. And they could also demonstrate this more intensively through clinical trials. The study cites as an example ResApp Health, an international start-up based in Australia. The app can diagnose 98% COPD accurately when the patient caves into his smartphone. This is validated by several clinical trials. The software used, in particular, clinics and doctors to extend their diagnostics cost-saving directly to the patient and his mobile phone, independent of the location and time. (Ger)
