And I devised even simpler method that Galileo would be proud of:

I stand at my kitchen window, position marked on the floor, looking out due East
and mark on the window pane a vertical line through he middle of the rising Sun.
Six months later same procedure, same feet placement and the updated vertical line is
a good 12 inches away from the previous line.

Good enough for me to SEE that Earth's axis has tilted, turned, got screwed or whatever.
